A study was conducted from November 20 to December 25, 2008 at Babilid, Roxas, Zamboanga del Norte. The main objective of the study was to determine the effects of different levels of lemongrass decoction on the growth performance of broiler. The poultry house was thoroughly cleaned and divided into twelve equal compartments to accommodate sixty (60) birds with five (5) heads per cages. Three levels of lemongrass decoction were tested 50g, 75g and 100g of lemongrass, mixed into 1000 ml of plain water and a control (plain water). A complete Ramdomized Design (CRD) was used in the study. was used in the study. Result of individual treatment, showed that the birds in Treatment 1 (50g of lemongrass decoction) obtained the highest total weight of 20.2 kg. and the lowest was observe at Treatment 3 (100g. of lemongrass decoction) with 17.7kg. The analysis of Variance is significant which is implying that the study has no significant effect on the growth of broilers. The Return of Capital (ROC) as observed within four weeks of study, Treatment 1 got the highest profit of 48.92% and the lowest profit was at Treatment 3 with 36.86%. Based on the result of the study, it was concluded that the use lemongrass decoction as source of drinking water for the broiler has failed to produce great difference in the weight of broiler. It is better to use plain water alone.

Objectives:

1. To determine the effects of Lemongrass decoction on the growth performance of broiler.

2. To evaluate the weekly weight gain of broiler.

3. To determine water and feed consumption of broilers.

4. To evaluate which treatment has the highest ROC.

Methods:

Complete Randomized Design (CRD)

Findings and Results:

The Complete Ramdomized Design (CRD) was used in the study with four treatment Treatment 0 (plain water), Treatment 1 (50g of lemongrass decoction), Treatment 2 (75g lemongrass decoction), Treatment 3 (100g of lemongrass decoction). Result of individual treatment, showed that the birds in Treatment 1 (50g of lemongrass decoction) obtained the highest total weight of 20.2 kg. and the lowest was observe at Treatment 3 (100g. of lemongrass decoction) with 17.7kg. Birds in Treatment 0 got the highest feed consumption where it consumed a total of 387.825 kg. of commercial feeds and followed by Treatment 1 with a total of 38.6 kg. and the lowest is Treatment 3 with 35.525 of feeds. On water consumption, treatment 1 had the highest water intake with a total of 94.86 liters, and the lowest was obtained from treatment 3 with 84.43 lites of water.

Conclusion:

It was concluded that the use of lemongrass decoction as source of drinking water for the broiler has failed to produce great difference in the weight of broiler. It is better to use plain water alone.
