The expiremental study entitled "Effects of Varied Levels of Native Yam (Dioscorea hispida) on the Growth Performance of Zampen Chicken" was conducted at Jose Rizal Memorial State University-Katipunan Campus Sanao Extension at Sanao, Katipunan, Zamboanga del Norte. Its duration of study was on February 15, 2017 to April 20, 2017. Utilization of varied levels of native yam (Dioscorea hispida)was employed to evaluate the growth performance of Zampen Chicken specifically on the feed consumption, weight gain, and feed conservation ratio and on the return of investment. Five different levels of native yam (Dioscorea hispida) were considered as treatment (To - 100% commercial feeds, T1 - 3% native yam + 97% commercial feeds, T2 - 6% native yam + 94% commercial feeds, T3 - 9% native yam + 91% commercial feeds. T4 - 12% native yam + 88% commercial feeds). It follows the layout of Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) such that three chicks were assigned for each treatment and replicated three times for the duration of two months. A total of 45 heads of chicks were used during the conduct of the study. Fortunately, the Zampen Chicken consumed the entired ration that given to them and on the whole period of study they consumed a total of 145.35 kg. of feeds substituted with native yam. The results showed that treatment 1 (100% commercial feeds ) have the highest weight gain achieved however Analysis of Variance revealed no significant differences among treatment.

Objectives:

To determine the effects of native yam on the growth performance of Zampen chicken and to evaluate its return of investment (ROI).

Methods:

Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD)

Findings and Results:

The results showed that on the weights, treatment 4 had obtained the highest mean weight of 966.21g. Followed by treatment 2 having 932.69g. On the other hand treatment 3 had a mean of 907.79g. An treatment 1 had a mean of 892.01g. The lowest mean weight was achieved by treatment 0 with 888.35 grams only.

Conclusion:

Statistical analysis reveals no significant difference on the weekly weight, gain in weight as well as on the final weight gain of the Zampen chicken. It was concluded that the native yam mixed with commercial feeds failed to produce great diffferences in terms of growth performance hence it was not recommended.
