Abstract:

??

The study was conducted from August 15 to September 30, 2009 covering a period of forty-five days in a privately-owned Piggery of Mr. Benedicto Patrocenio at Fatima, Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte. It aimed to determine the growth performance of suckling pigs fed with commercial ration supplemented with different levels of animal growth enhancer. Likewise, it aimed to To determine which level would give the highest Return on Capital (ROC). There were 12 heads of piglets at 10 days old that were used in the study. The piglets were randomly distributed into four lots and were replicated three times adopting the Completely Ramdomized Design (CRD). The pigs were fed with commercial ration supplemented with animal growth enhancer. The treatment used in the expirement were: Lot I, pure commercial ration; Lot II, commercial ration + 5 ml animal growth enhancer; Lot III, commercial ration + 10 ml animal growth enhancer and Lot IV, commercial ration + 15 ml animal growth enhancer in 1 liter of water. Initial weight of the piglets were taken at the start of the study. The result revealed that the weights of the expiremental piglets in all lots at the start of the study were homogeneous. The actual weight, accumulated gain in weight, initial body weight, actual body weight, initial heart girth, actual heart girth, actual scouring of piglets did not show significant differences among treatment based on statistical analysis. Futher, it indicates that animal growth enhancer did not significantly affect the piglets. The total feed consumed by the expiremental piglets for treatment I, II, III and IV are the same with 13.33 kg. The return on capital per treatment 28:12 for Lot I, 41.54 Lot II 32.18 Lot III and 5.34 Lot IV, and 26.795% ROC in the entire expirement.

Objectives:

To determine which level would give the highest Return on Capital (ROC).

Methods:

Complete Randomized Design (CRD)

Findings and Results:

1. The final weight of the piglets, body length and heart girth of suckling piglets after forty five days of feeding was 9.10 kg. 8.27kg. 9.77 kg. and 11.35 kg. which were obtained in Lots I, II, III and IV, respectively. The body length obtained was 49.50, 49.61, 52.00 and 56.50 cm respectively and obtained in Lots I, II, III and IV. For the heart girth, it was 53.50, 45.33, 54.00 and 48.33 cm. respectively were obtained by Lots I, II, III and IV 2. There was no significant difference on the growth of experimental piglets as supplemented by different levels of animal growth enhancer. 3. The level of the growth enhancer that provides higher return on the capital invested is the 5 ml.

Conclusion:

The result of the study showed that the weight of piglets was insignificantly affected by the different levels of growth enhancer as a growth supplementation. The treatment that figuratively that had piglets highest return on capital is obtained in Lot II which was 67.41%.
